Our Team
Meet the dedicated researchers and staff of the Muñoz-Manchado Lab

Dra. Muñoz Manchado holds a Bachelor's and Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Seville, where she completed her doctoral thesis on cell therapy for Parkinson's disease. She then pursued postdoctoral training at the prestigious Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. At Karolinska, she launched her own independent research line, investigating the genetic mechanisms underlying Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders with a focus on cell-type specificity. Now leading her own lab at the University of Cádiz and the Institute of Biomedical Research and Innovation (INiBICA), she employs advanced techniques such as single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and spatial transcriptomics to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying brain disorders.

Monica studied biology and specialised in biomedicine, has a background in neuroscience, molecular biology and animal experimentation. She is studying the role of Pthlh interneurons in brain function and behaviour using a combination of molecular and behavioural approaches.

Juan Manuel earned a degree in Biomedicine from the University of Seville, followed by a Master's in Genomics and Genetics at the University of Vigo. After gaining a strong interest in bioinformatics through various courses, he began formatting data with Bash at the Bioinformatics Platform of the Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela. He later honed his skills in Python and R for DNA and transcriptomic sequencing analysis, currently focused on Parkinson's Disease

Gabriel holds a degree in Biology from the University of Seville and a Master's in Biomedical Research from the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville. Throughout his academic career, he has built a strong foundation in key scientific disciplines, including immunology, organic chemistry, and neuroscience. He is currently focused on analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing data related to Parkinson's disease using bioinformatics tools.

Doctor in Medicine and Surgery, specialized in Pathological Anatomy and expert in microscopy and histology. He is a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Cádiz, teaching Histology, Cell Biology, and Developmental Biology.

Eugenia obtained her qualification as a Specialist Laboratory Technician and subsequently completed a degree in Psychology at the Universitat de Barcelona. She possesses extensive experience in research centers and biomedical laboratories. Currently, she serves as a Research Support Technician within our group.

Sara is currently working on her master's thesis in our group, characterizing the gene expression levels of specific genes in neuronal populations of the dorsal striatum using in situ hybridization.

Antonio is a medical student serving as a student collaborator in our research group, where he is actively involved in several of our projects.
